Artist: J. Cole

I'd say 2010 was a decent year for hip hop/rap music. While there was plenty of unintelligent and annoying rap songs, the world also got introduced to some damn good rappers. North Carolina raised J.Cole is one of my favorite to emerge in the last two years or so, and he certainly deserves the spotlight.

He is signed to Roc Nation, Jay-Z's label (which is telling you Hova recognizes some talent).  J.Cole started releasing songs in his teens then released his first mixtape right after he graduated college. Since that first mixtape he has gained much hype. He was mentioned in XXL magazine's 2010 version of Top Ten Freshmen.

I heard about J. Cole and dug the single he released  for radio play called "Who Dat," but he really shined on his last mixtape, Friday Night Lights, where he also handled most of the production as well. Other producers include: Kanye West, Timbaland, and SyienceFriday Night Lights was released back in November and it became the second most searched and trending topics on Google and Twitter following its release.

J. Cole has one of the smoothest flows, great lyrics, and a range of topics that keep his songs fresh. If you haven't listened to J.Cole before or are looking for a great new hip hop artist, then this is your man. Listen to some songs below.
