Throwback Album: Modest Mouse - The Lonesome Crowded West

**I recently have been playing with ideas for a new type of post for the music site. I figure at this point, I needed to throw something in the mix to keep this site truly fresh. My idea is the Fresh Throwback Album, where once a week I'll pick an album 2 years or older from the present date that I just love or find essential to your music library. Some of these albums may bring back memories, others might even be a new discovery for you, either way I hope you enjoy. **

Now getting right into the first weeks throwback album we have Modest Mouse's The Lonesome Crowded West, one of my favorite albums. Modest Mouse has been around since the early 90's, but didn't explode on the scene until that nifty song "Float On" became a sensation.

In 1997 they released one of the most original and diverse indie rock albums of my generation, if not of all time. Modest Mouse has the talent and natural ability to perform a more mellowed-out acoustic song like "Jesus Christ Was a Only Child" then kick it up with a song like "Shit Luck." Some of my favorites on the album are "Doin' the Cockroach," "Cowboy Dan," "Trailer Trash," "Heart Cooks Brain," and "Bankrupt on Selling."

The Lonesome Crowded West is an essential album for any Modest Mouse and/or indie rock fan. If this style of music is usually not your thing, at least check it out. It may open your ears to something new and different.
