Artist: The Knocks

Rarely do you see the opening band get this much love. I was able to see New York based producer/DJ duo The Knocks open for Ellie Goulding this past Saturday night in Boulder, and these dudes brought the party...hard. The Knocks, comprised of Ben "DJ B-Roc" Ruttner and James "JPatt" Patterson, kept the crowd dancing for the entirety of their too short 45 minute set, and looked like they were having a blast doing it. These guys definitely deserve a headlining spot the next time around.

I've mentioned before that dance music has been fading away in favor of Dubstep, Whomps, and other forms of intense electronic action, but The Knocks are doing their part to bring it back. These guys started as remix/mash-up DJs, using everyone from Ellie Goulding herself, to Passion Pit, to Drake, and everyone in between, and this year have started releasing original tracks, all to massive acclaim. Let me tell you, these guys got it. Their style is somewhere between Miike Snow and Daft Punk, and they've been described as "The Neptunes of dance music." Their music is as awesome as it sounds.

The Knocks' music, whether originals, remixes, or mash-ups, is all designed with the party goer in mind. It's dance music at its finest. I dare you to keep still while listening to their stuff. Check out some tracks below to see what I'm talking about, then venture over to their soundcloud page where they have tons more music available for free.

The Knocks - "Dancing with the DJ"

The Knocks - "Make it Better"

Passion Pit - "Sleepy Head (The Knocks Remix)

The Knocks are currently in the middle of this massive US tour supporting Ellie Goulding. Do yourselves a favor and see this show when it comes to your city. Outside of playing shows in new cities almost every night, these guys are recording an album and run their own record label called Heavy Roc music where they keep releasing more dance friendly jams from fellow New York based up-and-comers Alex Winston and Samuel. With these guys it's dance music all day...and who can blame them?
