Where does the name "Gees Extortion" come from and what does it represent to you as a artist?
Gees is simple, it comes from my first initial so cats grew up calling me Gees. It stuck so I ran with it. Extortion comes from my infatuation with the mob. I love both fictional and non-fictional characters. I like how they took what they want when they wanted it. That's what I plan on doing to the game except I'm not doing organized crime, I'm coming with organize rhymes. I am Gees Extortion.
When did you realize hip hop was something you wanted to pursue?
I've wanted to pursue my Hip Hop career for as far back as I could remember but the cruel harshness of reality took priority and other important business had to get done. I feel like this moment right now is my time. God gave me my call of duty, its modern warfare!
What inspires your music as far as lyrics are concerned?
My lyrics are inspired by life in general and the urge to eat whack rappers – not emcees, rappers, there is a difference. You already know what bracket I'm in. After all I'm inspired by real emcees at the end of the day.
Artists inspire you the most? Albums?
A lot of artists inspire me but I'm going to have to hit you with my top ten.” 2Pac, Biggie, Big Pun, Big L, Eminem, Lil Wayne, Jada, Jay-Z, Slick Rick and Rakim in no particular order. You can't forget the Wu. There's a few more but that's just off the top of my head.
"What makes me stand out is simple – the music, style and the delivery I come with. It is pure rap, pure Hip Hop."
What are your thoughts on the state of current hip hop? Positives? Negatives?
I will always love Hip Hop. I'm just disappointed with the state it’s in. It used to be about bars and hard beats now it’s more like politics and catchy phrases – need I say more.
How do you stand out among other artists on their pursuit of a music career?
What makes me stand out is simple – the music, style and the delivery I come with. It is pure rap, pure Hip Hop. These cats are just copying the current game, jumping on the nursery rhyme band wagon!
What are some current projects you're working on? Shows?
I'm working on my first official street LP entitled Underground King. I'm happy to say that its damn near finished and the wait shall end soon. I'm also working on my next videos. Be on the look out for that as well. I'll be shutting down stages in between time.
Where do you see your self in 2011? What do you hope to accomplish?
I hope to accomplish many things but for starters I would just like fans to really listen up, and give me the same opportunity they gave other up-and-comers, because I deserve to be heard. So for the remainder of 2011, I just want to drill it in your heads. The music will speak for itself!
What artists would you like to work with one day? Producers?
As far as emcees, I would love to do a track with 50 Cent, Eminem and Lil Wayne. I'm talking one track though [laughs]. As far as producers, definitely Dr Dre, amongst many others but that line up would be a dream come true and a blessing. If those rappers heard some of my shit I'm sure they'll want to jump on a track with me as well.
Anything you want to say to the fans or other aspiring emcees?
To all who have supported me you are highly appreciated and to the emcees out there keep pushing, you know what your worth. To the rappers, good luck motherfuckers!
