Video: Lana Del Ray - "Video Games" & "Kinda Outta Luck"

A lot of you have probably already heard the song/seen the video for Lana Del Ray's "Video Games", but for the rest of you, it's worth a watch.  Lana Del Ray is the pseudonym/alter-ego of NY singer-songwriter Lizzy Grant.  Grant's Del Ray personality (which she describes as a "gangster Nancy Sinatra") recently jumped onto the internet's buzz list thanks to a best new music for her fist single from P4k and a lot of other positive reviews and discussion from other sites and blogs.  Her appeal is easy to see; she creates a unique kind of mood and atmosphere with both her songs and videos that compliment her bombastic, but self-destructive personality.  However, she really isn't doing anything too original music-wise.

Her songs sound a lot like Cat Power and other moody, down-tempo female songwriters, which means most of her buzz is coming from her image (that's usually the case though).  That's not to say there isn't any talent on display here. The video is probably one of the better ones I've seen this year; it was put together with a lot of care and craft, and it flows with the song so well.  The song itself is also rich with beautiful production details, and it's a well-written melody that really stays with you.  There's different emotions all over this song which keeps it interesting.  But, judge for yourself by watching the video below.  And try not to get sucked into the hype.  You can also watch the video for another Del Ray song, "Kinda Outta Luck" so you get a more complete picture of her personality.  Check 'em out below.

Fresh?
