Video: Joey Bada$$ - "Fromdatomb$" ft. Chuck Strangers

If there is any current artist that gives me that 90s hip hop chills, it's the young kid from Brooklyn by the name of Joey Bada$$. The emcee probably barely remembers the era when hip hop was at its complete finest, but he knows how to keep that style fresh and relevant. Yet, what you got to respect about Joey Bada$$ is he isn't making music for the radio, he is doing it all for the love of good hip hop. "Fromdatomb$" is off his debut tape 1999, and it features Chuck Strangers and basically has a throwback style in the visual as well. Watch below.

Crystal Castles - "Affection"

Oh yes, some new Crystal Castles for everyone and it is a hell of a tune to listen to on this holiday. They bring back the heavy bass with some solid synths that keep their sound fully intact, plus the haunting vocals, which add to the greatness. Crystal Castles, "Affection," might be one of my favorites of theirs so far and it will also be on their upcoming new record (III), out November 12th.

RL Grime - Halloween Mix 2012

Must be the spirit of ghouls and terror during this Halloween that is inspiring artists and producers to release mixes or mixtapes. Diplo already did his the other day and Lil' B released a mixtape, and now DJ/producer RL Grime released his filthy mix of electronic and dance. You'll get 30 minutes of pure fun and it is a mix I'll be bumping for the rest of the afternoon. Stream and download below.

Mikky Ekko - "Pull Me Down" (Prod. Clams Casino)

When Clams Casino broke out onto the scene in early 2011, I was immediately a fan because the beats had so much layered sounds and each was an epic piece of music. So naturally, anytime his production credit is on something I'm going to give it a listen. Yet, what is great about this song called "Pull Me Down" is that it is not just Clams beat that makes the song, Mikky Ekko put together a great Pop tune with R&B mixed in. He has a hell of a good voice and really like the lyrics to this. The song also showcases that Clams can produce other types of music besides his heavy, anthem like hip hop tunes. Stream this great song below and stay tuned for more from Mikky Ekko.

Video: Gucci Mane - "Crazy" ft. Waka Flocka Flame (NSFW)

Well, if you want to get into the Halloween spirit, look no further than Gucci Mane and Waka Flocka's new video for the song "Crazy." It's a pretty disturbing visual and it is certainly is not safe for work, so be careful when clicking this to watch. As the two spit their bars, they end up terrorizing innocent people in masks with chainsaws. Yeah, it's the Halloween spirit for sure. Watch below.

The Gaslight Anthem - "Skinny Love" (Bon Iver Cover)

The Gaslight Anthem is having a pretty good year with their excellent major label debut album  Handwritten, multiple 7-inch releases, and a full touring schedule -- these guys are keeping busy. Also, these guys are releasing a new EP Hold You Up, exclusively on 10-inch vinyl for this year's Record Store Day. Much hasn't been said on what exactly will be on the EP, but this cover of Bon Iver's "Skinny Love" will be. It's more of an acoustic cover with some solid raspy vocals to go along. Stream it below.

Curren$y - Priest Andretti (Mixtape)

Yesterday, I posted the song "Talk My Shit" produced by Thelonious Martin, where I mentioned that this would be on Spitta's new mixtape, Priest Andretti. The tape is a Halloween treat for this Wednesday and features 14 tracks of solid material. Some guests include N.O.R.E., King Chip, Trademark, Fiend, Young Roddy and Corner Boy P. Stream and download the mixtape below.

Video: The Antlers - "Drift Drive"

The Antlers released a new video yesterday for the song "Drift Drive," off their Undersea EP. So to keep with their water theme, the visual of course has scenes of water. It's nothing too over the top, but fits the surf-rock jam well and should be a relaxing watch. Check it out below.

Kendrick Lamar - "The Jig Is Up (Dump’n)" (Prod J.Cole & Canei Finch)

So we got to give some shout outs to Kendrick Lamar who sold almost 250k copies of his debut album in its first week, which is awesome. As an appreciation for all the love, Lamar released out a new tune for free called "The Jig Is Up (Dump'n)" featuring production from J. Cole and Canei Finch. This will be a song you'll want to download right now.

Video: Slighty Stoopid - "Top of the World"

Slighty Stoopid rarely releases an official video for their music, but they honestly do not need to at this point as their DIY work ethic has brought them so many fans. Yet, it is nice to get a visual and this is for their song "Top of the World." The video is really chill and has a nice laid back style, which of course is fitting for Slighty Stoopid. Watch below.

Curren$y - "Talk My Shit" (Prod. Thelonious Martin)

Spitta will be dropping a new mixtape tomorrow called Priest Andretti, which I'm pretty pumped about because Curren$y never disappoints. Today he gave us a new preview in a song he calls "Talk My Shit." This is the kind of track that is all about bragging how dope you are and on top of Spitta going off, Thelonious Martin supplied a dope beat. This was recorded in the Summer for Closed Sessions with the fresh blog Ruby Hornet.

A Sol Mechanic - "I Still Love You"

It's been a minute since we got some new music from Los Angeles beat master A Sol Mechanic, but he has returned with a tune called "I Still Love You." With his music, it can span from hip hop, to experimental, to even elements of downtempo or chillwave. On this new cut, things start off relatively quiet, but pick up nicely with a solid bass and sampled loop. Stream it below.

Video: Ill Bill - "Severed Heads of State" ft. El-P

If there is one combo of rappers you'll want to listen up to, it's Ill Bill and El-P who link up on the first new song called "Severed Heads of State," which is off Ill Bill's upcoming project The Grimy Awards. On this track, El-P not only lends his rapping skills, but produces the song as well. Also, a video was released, but nothing to crazy about, just some purple tint and pulsating colors, with some scenes in the background. I'll say the imagery goes with the song though, check it out below.

Download Diplo's Halloween Mixtape

Hope everyone on the East Coast survived the effects of hurricane Sandy, I know by me we had over 80 MPH wind gusts, but luckily I still have power and no real damage. Now, tomorrow is officially Halloween and some mixes are starting to be released, including Diplo's new 3 hour mixtape for Halloween, which was for British radio show BBC1xtra. You'll get snippets of Kanye West, Destiny's Child,, A$AP Rocky, Danny Brown, and more in a giant session of music. The full tracklist of what he sampled is on his Soundcloud here. Stream and download below.

El Perro Del Mar - "Hold off the Dawn"

Yesterday, the elecro-pop singer El Perro Del Mar released her second single off the upcoming new record, Pale Fire, out November 13th. This single is more upbeat than some of her other songs and has a dreamy vibe to it as well. She mentioned about the song:

"In this world, you think you have no reason to believe in love or in anything much. Then one day, when you least expect it, a light appears on the far horizon. It's a flickering light, begging you to come, telling you to stay away. It's the pale fire. The promise of love and hope - all consuming and elusive. Yet for a moment, it brings clarity in the darkness, future to the ruins and power to the fight."

Video: Dikta - "What Are You Waiting For?"

I like getting sent stuff from other countries occasionally, since you can really see some new creative things and the different styles other cultures have. Icelandic group Dikta released a video back in August for the single "What Are You Waiting For?" which is from their album Trust Me. There is pretty many things going on in the video and it has a pretty dramatic storyline, yet it fits the song well. Watch the video below.

Video: Das Racist - "Girl"

You got to love the Das Racist crew, because they always think of clever things to say or have hilarious videos, and this one has a mix of both. The Blood Diamond produced track "Girl" was on the groups album Relax from last year, but they just now got a visual out. In the video, we see and follow some creepy dude as he pursues a hot chick. This is pretty legit.

Youngblood Hawke - "We Come Running" (Milkman Remix)

Youngblood Hawke's single "We Come Running" might be one of the catchiest tunes of the year and since I posted it a few weeks back I've been constantly revisiting it. Now I'm hearing these guys on the radio, which only make sense because while retaining some indie/alt sound, it has mainstream appeal written all over it. The other day however, Milkman gave this track a remix with dance and electronic elements. This one will get you fist pumping and singing a long really fast. Stream and download below.

Kids These Days - Traphouse Rock (Album Stream + Download)

Tomorrow we will all get to purchase the much anticipated record Traphouse Rock from Chicago hip hop group Kids These Days. This group has such a refreshing sound and all the previews we got up to this point have been incredible. If you have not listened to a song by them, they mix jazz, hip hop, and rock into the ultimate sound. However, we can now stream the entire record a day early thanks to Rolling Stone. Click the link below to stream.

Ghost Beach - Modern Tongues (EP)

Since about Summer time when I was properly introduced to the duo of Ghost Beach, I was impressed. Their sound lands somewhere between a Passion Pit and a St. Lucia, but of course that is just a general reference as they make music that is entirely their own blend. We've actually heard a few songs of theirs prior to a release and now they have five track EP called Modern Tongues, which features those songs like "Miracle," "Been There Before," and "Tear Us Apart." For only five songs, the EP is solid featuring about 20 minutes of music and is something you'll enjoy. Stream it below.

Hot Sugar - "56k" ft. Heems

New York City producer Hot Sugar is starting to get some serious attention and he will be releasing   MiDi Murder EP, which serves as the precursor to a full length project that should be out sometime next year. On this track he connects with Heems of Das Racist for a song called "56k." The fuzzy noises brings back memories of slow Internet and tying up the phone lines. If you do not know what I'm talking about then Google it and also, way to make me feel old. Stream the jam below.

Fresh Threads: T.G.I. Fresh Clothing

This would be the most appropriate clothing to post this week for fresh threads, because not only does the brand have fresh in their name, but the clothing is on the come-up and really has some cool ass designs. Thank God I'm Fresh Clothing was started in 2011 with the goal of being something new and different to the mass collection of streetwear out in the fashion world. So far the founders Al Maddin and Jahi Roosevelt are achieving this and at a relatively fast paced considering how tough it is to stand out in today's market. Check out some items below, but to get a full look, check out their Fall 2012 Look Book for more goodies right here.

Beau Young Prince - "Harlem Shake"

DMV native Beau Young Prince is one of our favorites and a guy we continue to watch make some serious moves in hip hop. In our recent interview with him, we pointed out that he is always trying new forms of beats to rap over and is what makes him stand out. Yet again, he takes on a different type of song, "Harlem Shake" by Baauer, and turns it into a straight hip hop banger. It's heavy on the bass, a solid dance tune, and a wicked fast freestyle. Listen and download below.

Four Tet - "Lion" (Jaime xx Remix)

Producer Four Tet already took on a remix of The xx, so this time Jaime xx comes back with his own version of "Lion." The song is pretty chill and really mellow, but the elements that Jaime xx adds in are just the right touch to give "Lion" a new feel. Based on these two remixes from these guys, I'm thinking we might see a full album of remixes and such -- now that'd be amazing. Stream the tune below.

Video: Rick Ross - "Off The Boat" ft. French Montana

Some of us on the East Coast probably will be needing boats, suppose to get real nasty with floods where I am. So everyone out here stay safe. Now, that being said here is some new visuals from French Montana and Rick Ross for their Lex Luger produced "Off The Boat." Eif Rivera directed the video and shows the pair doing exactly what their hook says. This song was off Rozay's album Rich Forever.

The song is typical from what you'd get from the pair, but got to give credit to Luger for that tough beat. Watch the video below.

Memory Tapes - "Walk Me Home 2"

New Jersey native Dayve Hawk, who goes by Memory Tapes, had released a Halloween mix back in 2009 which was to get you in the spirit of the holiday. It showed his love for horror and was filled some haunting electronic beats and this year he returns with a part two. This mix is just over 13 minutes, and really is like a mini mixtape. Memory Tapes will release a third album on December 4 called Grace/Confusion and this compilation serves as a treat before then. Stream it below.

Video: Of Montreal - "Sails, Hermaphroditic"

Of Montreal always had sort of a different style than most bands, not only musically but the type of visuals they supply for their singles. The latest video is for the song "Sails, Hermaphroditic" off the album, Daughter of Cloud, which is the Georgia band’s new rarities compilation. This NSFW video finds two teams competing in a bloody, weird, football game. The idea was developed from frontman Kevin Barnes and was directed by Nina Barnes. Check it out below.

Different Sleep - Infinite (EP)

Those chilled-out electronic songs have really grown on me in the recent months and their are plenty of producers in this genre, but not all of them do it well. However, San Diego bred Rafa Alvarez or Different Sleep, is one that has created some really fresh tunes. Between his originals and remixes, he has been able to perfect his craft, and shows his talent on the most recent EP called Infinite. These 4 tracks are really mellow, but they put you in the right mindset. Stream it below.

Video: Titus Andronicus - "In a Big City"

The New Jersey band Titus Andronicus is proud to be from their home state, and nothing like sharing that pride in a song like "In A Big City." The punk and rebel attitude is in full effect in the tune and the accompanying video features front man Patrick Stickles trying to make his way from New Jersey to Manhattan. Watch it below.

Calvin Harris - 18 Months (Album Stream)

Producer and DJ Calvin Harris has found some nice success with singles like "Feel So Close" and his joint song with Rihanna "We Found Love," but now it's almost time for his anticipated new record 18 Months. This album will be out next week, along with a lot of new ones so it will be a good week for music. Also, the album will have features from Florence Welch and Ellie Goulding. Luckily for us, the Scottish producer let 18 Months out on his website to be streamed before it is released. Click the link below to hear the album in full.

Kids These Days - "Bud Biliken"

You should be pretty amp for Chicago hip hop group Kids These Days debut album Traphouse Rock, which is out next week. This song is called "Bud Biliken" and is their re-imagining of "Hay," from Chi-town's hip-hop group Crucial Conflict. You'll hear Kids These Days add their jazzy-funk, horns, and nice guitar solos that complete this song. This group has continued to impress me and I'm sure their debut will not disappoint. Listen and download to the track below.

Juba - "Bloodvessels"

Lately the submissions I have been getting are much better in terms of easy to read and the quality of the music. The newest that appeared in my inbox is from a band from Lisbon, Portugal called JUBA, who make experimental, indie, surf-rock music. There first single and free tune, "Bloodvessels" is an impressive start with a groovy bass line, nice guitar hook, and energetic drums that keep you along for the whole song. The song is also the title of the upcoming album. Listen and download below.

Farewell Republic - "Bloomberg"

Brooklyn based band Farewell Republic will be releasing their second LP, Young Effete Titans of Industry, in 2013, which is just around the corner. Yet, the band released the first single and the opening track from the record called "Bloomberg." The song is an interesting balance of electronic and psychedelic-rock, but it is instantly captivating. Stream the tune below and check out the tracklist for the new album.

1. Bloomberg
2. Madison
3. What
4. Young
5. Oceans
6. Souls
7. Troy
8. Lines

Rush Midnight (of Twin Shadow) - +1 (EP Stream)

Rush Midnight's tropical grooves are bound to make you happy on this Friday, I know the tunes got me smiling right now. If you do not know Rush Midnight, you may know Twin Shadow, who Russ Manning used to play bass with. The EP +1 is out October 30th via Cascine, who has a really impressive line up as I love their press releases they send. What is cool about this EP is there really is a giant mix of influences from jazz, reggae, new wave, dance, and pretty much anything else. Stream the EP below, you won't be disappointed.

The Weeknd - "Enemy"

The Toronto crooner, The Weekend, took to his Twitter account last night after 11pm to drop a new tune called "Enemy" to his followers as a thank you. This has been the first new song we got in awhile, and it is a solid R&B tune that has the appeal for mainstream, but keeps that sound everyone fell in love with on his debut mixtape House of Balloons. "Enemy" will not be on his upcoming three disc album, Trilogy,  which is coming soon.

#NP: Tame Impala - "Be Above It" (The Spastik Acperience by Four Floors Of Whores)

Are you above it?  I'm above it.  This song is above it.  If you're not above it, you can get above it by listening to this song.  It is one hell of a good time.  It's a remix of the opening track from Tame Impala's great sophomore album, Lonerism (which you should definitely check out if you haven't already).  Actually, it's more of a mashup, but I'm not talking the usual two-pop-songs-you-would-never-expect-to-go-together-but-it's-so-cool-they-do-just-listen-to-it mashup that your buddy's annoying ex-girlfriend would always play (I'm speaking from a personal experience I had with this song).  This "Spastik Acperience" is three great acid house tracks layered on top of an already excellent and up-lifting pop song to make something that is truly transcendent.  Seriously, you'll feel like you are flying during the seven minute and 42 second run-time, and then you'll promptly hit play again.

The mix is by Four Floors Of Whores a trio of DJs/Producers/Artists from London who have some serious skills and an awesome name.  It is also a sampler of their upcoming mix for the Irish-based mix series called Off The Record which I will definitely post when it drops.  For now, we have this excellent gem to listen to and more to look forward to from these guys.  So go ahead and be above it now.

Big Sean - "Guap" (Prod. Young Chop & Key Wane)

G.O.O.D. Music's Detroit native Big Sean is back with a new jam called "Guap" featuring production from Young Chop and Key Wane. The beat has a tropical vibe with like a steel drum effect, which is a bit different from the hard edged beats we typically hear from Young Chop, but it's showing his versatility with Key Wane. Now, back to the rapper, I still have mixed feelings as he brings it on some songs then sort of gets weak on others. This song is chill though and like what I hear. This will  end up on his second album, Hall of Fame: Memoirs of a Detroit Player, which is slated for a December release. Boiii!

Meek Mill - "Tony Story Part 2"

As it is with most upcoming albums, they tend to leak early and pretty sure Meeks debut album, Dreams and Nightmares has. But, I will not be looking for it out there and will be purchasing the record to support the Philly artist. The official release is next week on October 30th, but until then he let out another track called "Tony Story Part 2." The first "Tony Story" was on his last mixtape and was instantly a standout track that told a story, so naturally this is the follow up. Production is from Boi-1da, which is the perfect instrumental to this story that Meek paints. Stream below.

Heems - "Cowabunga Gnarly"

The Das Racist crew is one of the interesting hip hop groups to emerge in the last two years, probably because people take them as a parody rap group, but both Heems and Kool A.D. spit some serious good bars, although they can be sarcastic. Heems is preparing to release a new mixtape called Wild Water Kingdom. To give us a taste, he released a song called "Cowabunga Gnarly" featuring production from Harry Fraud. The two compliment each other and Heem's kills it. The mixtape is out November 11th via Greedhead, which is also releasing a 7" single leading up to a collaborative EP between Harry Fraud and Heems.

Video: M83 - "Steve McQueen"

Pretty sure 2011 was the ultimate year for M83, who finally got some serious recognition thanks to some monster hits and sweet ad placement in Victoria Secret commercials. Yet, M83 also released a few music videos, which got people talking and interested in them as well. Today, the band released the video for "Steve McQueen" off the most recent album Hurry Up, We're Dreaming. This visual has animal figurines, a young boy in a yellow suit, fireworks, and more. Watch below.

Angel Haze - Classick (Mixtape)

The young female and New York bred emcee Angel Haze returns with a new mixtape called Classick and it is something you should definitely download ASAP. I'm usually pretty critical of female rappers, not because of their gender, but many have been promising then disappointed (ahem Nicki Minaj's early stuff to what she is now). The others like Lil' Kim, Eve, hell even Foxy Brown really aren't doing shit musically so a female rapper with some serious talent is needed. I do think Missy Elliot is returning soon, so that is exciting.

Although the tape is only 6 tracks, you get to hear some new bars and this allows Haze to show you a bit more of what she is all about. Stream and download below.

Watch The Lumineers Perform "Ho Hey" on Letterman

The instant I heard The Lumineers infectious single "Ho Hey" a few weeks back, I was instantly hooked in. Not only did it dominate one of the only good radio stations in Philly, 104.5, but people all over seemed to love it. The song is actually quite short and is my only qualm about it, but that is okay that's what the replay button is for. Anyway, the Denver based band performed "Ho Hey" last night on the Late Show with David Letterman, which should only introduce their folk/indie sound to even more people. Watch below.

Ryan Marks - Fiji (EP)

While dubstep has taken over as the new "it" thing in music, another form of electronic is starting to gain momentum, and that would be trap music. I enjoy this a lot more than dubstep, as there is more energy and no "womp" "womps." Ryan Marks is a LA producer and is half of the duo LOUDPVCK, and here we are with his first solo project -- an EP called Fiji. The mix of vocal drops, bass, and dance elements make this for a hell of a fun EP, especially for the first solo material. There is also three remix tracks too. Stream the EP below and buy it on iTunes here.

Via Earmilk

Blood Orange - "Neptune" ft. Starchild (Lemonade Cover)

"Neptune" was a cool R&B/pop infused indie tune from Brooklyn band Lemonade, who make a blend of dance/rock music. It was also one the better tracks they have released in their collection, but Dev Hynes, or Blood Orange as he has become to be known, did his own version of the track. It also features his friend and rapper Starchild near the end for some verses. Stream the cover tune below.

Video: Macklemore & Ryan Lewis Documentary

I initially wrote off Seattle rapper Macklemore, which was truly a mistake on my part because he makes solid music with plenty of meaning behind each one of his tunes. If you are not a believer in him, then I suggest reconsidering and watching this new documentary about him and his producer Ryan Lewis. What makes this pair interesting is they sold 70k units of their most recent album, The Heist, which was released as an independent, no label behind it. Yet, that is only part of why you should respect these guys as there hustle and work ethic is truly one of a kind. The documentary really gets behind the scenes to where you get to know these guys and you'll feel a new level of respect for them.  Jabari Johnson is behind the camera and traveled to Seattle to interview the pair and get to be on set for their "Thrift Shop" video. Really interesting stuff, watch below.

Meek Mill - "Believe It" ft. Rick Ross

Although the buzz this week has been about Kendrick Lamar's debut album, next week we have Philly's own Meek Mill with his debut, Dreams & Nightmares. This record has been a long time in the making and it is exciting to see what the rapper has in store for us, although the timing might not be the best -- at least it is the week after Kendrick. The latest song to come out before the record is a bass heavy "Believe It" featuring the boss, Rick Ross. Its got that hard and tough beat that you come to love from the MMG crew, plus Ross saying a Justin Bieber line in the hook is fantastic. Stream below.
