Apache Prophet - "Unfinished Sonata" (Prod. Taz Taylor & MayeniacBeats)

Good morning. Did you have a dream?

Last time you heard a song from Apache Prophet he was weaving a tragic tale of loss and unrequited love, and while that song was a fictional tale(?), the artist himself is no stranger to real loss. His last album, If He Dies He Dies 2, is an autobiographical epic about Prophet's dealing with the deaths of his best friend and older brother. As you can imagine, these two losses so close together devastated him and he found himself struggling with alcoholism, drug abuse, and depression. However, by the end of the story, Prophet has been saved from his greatest enemy (himself) by the love of his now girlfriend and by making peace with his past.

"Unfinished Sonata" was released last week via his twitter and it finds Prophet returning to his story to give us an update on where he is in this moment. First of all, this is the best and most focused song I've heard from him so far. This is due to a few things, but the one that stands out most is that Prophet really opens up on this track about his struggle with depression. Depression is a very real and often misunderstood issue for many people. There are people who, as a result of chemical imbalances in their brain, trauma, or some combination of the two, have a really hard time overcoming sadness or apathy and being motivated to go about their daily lives. Yet most people are not understanding of this and treat people with depression like they can just snap out of it. I've had personal experience with this just recently and it seems that the first step is people opening up like this and talking about the struggle that is very real.

On this track Prophet does not only open up about his struggle, but he offers himself and his music as a place of refuge for people who feel this way. A place where they can overcome. It's a really beautiful track and I sincerely hope you enjoy it.

Keys N Krates - "I Know U"

Keys N Krates "I Know U"

Unfortunately, the Mad Decent Block Party date in Philly I attended, Keys N Krates were not there, however they were the day after. I wanted to see the trio live because I love the music, but alas, another time. But, the three have returned with a brand new song called "I Know U," which will appear on their upcoming new EP. So I'm assuming in the next few weeks we should get some more excellent tracks as they typically do not disappoint with their releases. Stream the electronic jam below.

Sigala - "Easy Love"

Sigala "Easy Love"

One song that has been stuck in my head now for a month and probably many of you as well is Sigala's "Easy Love." Not really sure why I did not show it love on here previously, but I had to share it now. While the song has racked up over a million plays in the few months that it has been out, I'm sure there are plenty of you that have not had the pleasure to hear this song. It blends, electronic, tropical, dance, and a cool vocal sample. It gets stuck in my head every time I hear it. The official single release is out on September 4th. Stream the tune below.

Foals - "London Thunder"

Foals "London Thunder"

I don't know about you, but I really dig Foals. Just something they do in their indie-rock sound that I always enjoy and their latest single, "London Thunder" is no exception. The band is preparing for the release of their new album, WHAT WENT DOWN," but released this synth-fused jam. As you listen, you also notice the song continues to progress and builds, which just adds to the music listening experience. They also released a few other full songs and a few samplers on their Soundcloud.

Kaskade - "We Don't Stop"

Kaskade "We Don't Stop"

What is sort of crazy is I don't think I've actually posted about Kaskade on here, which is odd considering I enjoy his music. But, with the vast amount of music to share, sometimes certain artists slip through. Well, Kaskade gets his debut on my dinky blog with his recent song called "We Don't Stop." This is the lead single off his upcoming new album, Automatic, which will be out soon. For now, you can enjoy the catchy synth-heavy, electronic anthem.

Mr. Carmack - "thotsgalore"

Mr Carmack "thotsgalore"

Hawaiian native and producer Mr. Carmack should be on most music fans radars as he has been on top of his game for some time now. Plus, he constantly releases fresh material and has been working with some industry names. Now, we get another new song from him called "thotsgalore." While it is not over the top featuring a ton of sounds, it still has a crisp electronic vibe with a funky twist. You can stream and download the song for free below.

Penthouse Penthouse – "69′ Camaro"

Penthouse Penthouse 69 Camaro

I originally shared a cool tune from LA duo Penthouse Penthouse a few weeks ago after I randomly came across their song on Soundcloud. I loved the groove they created and I saw they released a new tune called "69' Camaro." Once again the pair produce gold mixing in a cool soul, funk, and R&B synth beat with additional vocals from Bobby Saint. The song is also based n the instrumental "Dandy In Love" by Mukai Shutoku. Stream the smooth tune below.

A Yawn Worth Yelling - "Start Somewhere"

A Yawn Worth Yelling "Start Somewhere"

Initially what attracted me to the band A Yawn Worth Yelling was the interesting name, but once I listened to their song "Start Somewhere," I was more interested because of the good music. The San Jose indie-pop group has a cool sound similar hellogoodbye or The Dear Hunter, but have much groovier basslines and bounce to them. Now as of more recently, there really hasn't been a lot of great indie or pop acts on here, but A Yawn Worth Yelling has peaked my interest in the genre(s) once again. Stream the song below.

Mayer Hawthorne - "Handy Man"

Mayer Hawthorne "Handy Man"

Singer Mayer Hawthorne hasn't been featured here a lot, but I do dig the music. His latest single is called "Handy Man," which was written, produced, and mixed by Hawthorne as well. Showcasing he has the musical chops to do more than just croon. The song is an R&B/soul ode and even has a bit of a classic feel to it. This is a track that should get you in a better mood with its upbeat bounce, horn section, piano solo, and cool sax solo. This song won't make his upcoming album, but he wanted share with fans. You can snag this song hammer USB flash drive. Stream the song below.

Horns: Will Sessions
Baritone Sax solo: Justin Jozwiak
Piano solo: Quincy McCrary
All other instruments: Mayer

The Hood Internet - "Classic Lean" (Jidenna ft Kendrick Lamar x Major Lazer & DJ Snake)

The Hood Internet "Classic Lean"

While you won't see a ton of mash-up songs on here, I always did have respect for The Hood Internet who really have an ear for piecing tunes together in a unique way. The Chicago duo's latest is called "Classic Lean," which is a massive mash of Jidenna, Kendrick Lamar, Major Lazer, and DJ Snake. Probably one of the longest amount of artists mashed together, but it does work. While I don't think this is their strongest mix, it is still a solid party jam. Listen below.

Reece - "Don't Go"

REECE "Don't Go"

One new artist to watch is singer REECE and if you need some convincing, just listen to his recent song called "Don't Go." The 19 year old is already getting some praise and comparisons to other big names in the R&B genre. He also hits some serious high notes that can leave you truly impressed and not only does he have a flavor similar to The Weeknd, but even upcoming singer Gallant. The talent of these younger generations is really exciting and can't wait to see where REECE ends up. Stream the track below and let me know what you think.

Beau Young Prince - "Resurrect Me"

New Beau Young Prince called "Resurrect Me"

Beau Young Prince should be a familiar name on this blog as I've been covering his unique blend of hip hop for quite awhile now. Now for the anticipation of his new project, Until Then, out this fall, he released a new track called "Resurrect Me." The song takes on a more ambient and R&B sound, which again shows Beau's diversity when it comes to his music. Listen to the song below and stay tuned for the full project coming soon.

William Bolton - "Fading"

William Bolton "Fading"

If you are still getting familiar with Detroit native William Bolton, now is the time to start getting acquainted. His music is going to blow up, especially with tunes like his most recent called "Fading." Once again, he blends pop, hip hop, soul, and some new mo-town swagger. The production is from French producer 20syl with a nice guitar breakdown from Bolton. Also in the mix is vocals from Brianna-Marie Bell, who he has worked with previously. The single is also something most of us can related to, referring to a bad break-up. Listen below and snag a download here.

Kygo - "Piano Jam"

Kygo "Piano Jam"

Norwegian producer Kygo is mostly known for his cool tropical sounds, but on his most recent "Piano Jam," he extends his chops a bit. While there is some electronic blend, the focus is mostly on the cool piano and minimalistic style. It's nice to hear Kygo experiment with his music and show the world he has other talents outside of the tropical soundscape. Stream the new song below and let us know what you think.

BJ The Chicago Kid - "Nothin' But Love" ft. Joey Badass & Hannibal Buress

I've seen the hip hop artist BJ The Chicago Kid's name floating around for a bit now and I'll admit, I've been sleeping on his music. Yet, I saw "Nothin' But Love" featuring Joey Badass and comedian Hannibal Buress so I figured I'd give it a listen. I'm glad I did because the song is damn good, which also made me check out his previously material on Soundcloud. Boy, was I really sleeping as BJ is a dope artist. California rapper Duckwrth, who is a bit newer of an artist for me, teamed up with producer The Kickdrums for a track called "Psycho." Now, The Kickdrums have been featured here a few times with some dope beats and he continues that on this track. The pair on working on a collaborative project called Nowhere, which is due out in a few weeks. After listening to this groovy cut, I'm definitely excited for the full project. Stream the cut below.

Ryan Hemsworth – "Afterglow"

Ryan Hemsworth "Afterglow"

One of my favorite Canadian producers, Ryan Hemsworth, has returned with a new song called "Afterglow." This is the first taste of truly something new since he released his album last year, so this is definitely a nice surprise for the mid-week. There is a trippy element to this production and this mellow atmosphere that will leave you feeling euphoric. The different styles Hemsworth is able to mix into his productions has always been a reason while I flock to his tunes. Stream the new song below.

Danny Brown & Clams Casino - "Worth It"

New Song from Danny Brown and Clams Casino

Since both Detroit rapper Danny Brown and New Jersey producer Clams Casino burst onto the scene a few years back, both have been relatively quiet with new material. However, Adult Swim Singles Series got the pair together to create a new collaboration track called "Worth It." This immediately got the music community buzzing and the song is continuing to rack up the plays. You can stream the song below and get a free download here.
